Local Conferences of Youth (LCOY) are events by YOUNGO, the official children and youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Through an application process led by the LCOY Working Group, selected LCOY organizers bring the annual climate negotiations, generally through the Conferences of Parties (COP), to their home or Residence countries and advocate for more concrete climate action. This year LCOY for the first time ever selected the Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar (AYCMQA) and its partners to organize LCOY Qatar.

LCOYs offer a safe and strong environment in which youth can influence decisions made by decision-makers in their home or residence countries through concrete support from YOUNGO and other potential partners. LCOYs also create strong networks of young people committed to making a change and enable these networks to reach more youth in the country in question.

Hence, LCOYs play a fundamental role in guaranteeing the representativeness of youth, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds such as indigenous people, to participate effectively in climate negotiations.

LCOY Qatar will join a network in which youth can connect across different sectors and explore ways to collaborate on a local, regional, and global level.

LCOY 2023 will cultivate climate-conscious Citizens and Residents in Qatar.

Thus, the youths in Qatar will lead the much-needed transformations of the economy and society in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV) and its enabling strategies, particularly the Qatar Environment and Climate Change Strategy (QNE) and the National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP). Key work streams include formulating green growth pathways, climate change adaptation, circular economy, knowledge sharing, and capacity development, etc.
